This year, R U OK? Day is 9 September.
R U OK? Day reminds us to invest more time connecting with our friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to let them know we’re thinking about them and we’re there to support them.
Checking in With Those Around You
Checking in with your friends is a powerful life skill for connecting and building strong relationships.
Check ins can be done in many ways, from a short text to a conversation over dinner. But, you should always be prepared to be vulnerable, confidential and be prepared to listen.
It’s best to ask slightly deeper open ended questions like “How is work?” to encourage a deeper response than “I’m fine”.
A Check In for R U OK Day!
We’ve built iyarn to help you check in, in your personal life and your professional life.
iyarn is all about unlocking good, honest conversation between people, and we’ve developed our software platform to make it easy. We’re a simple way to define what matters, track data and share results. These results are a spark for reflection and deeper conversation.
In general, the tips for using iyarn as a spark for conversation are:
- Talk about the positives.
- If people are comfortable, talk about the negatives. Note this may take some time.
- Talk about progress over time.
- Talk about actionable next steps that’ll help to improve ratings.
We’ve set up a quick, easy check in for you for R U OK? Day: no login or signup is required and all data is anonymous.
This is a quick and basic example of a check in. Additional features are available on iyarn once you’ve set up an account, including saving your data and setting up your own check ins.
Use iyarn’s web app if you’re on a desktop or download the app from App Store (for iPhone) and Google Play (for Android). Set up a wheel in a few clicks and then share it to the people you need to check in with!
