R U OK? Day 2019

R U OK? Day 2019

R U OK? Day is right around the corner, this Friday 13 September 2019.

The message of R U OK? Day is really special to the team at iyarn. It’s what we’re all about – connecting often, and without judgement or expectation.

iyarn was inspired by the word Liyarn of the Bardi, Western Kimberley Saltwater people on the Dampier Peninsula. The Bardi people ‘yarn’ together and connect through conversation.

When the Bardi community connect, they ask, “how is your liyarn?” This is a path leading into a deeper conversation around the alignment of mind, body and soul.

Connect on R U OK? Day

According to the 75 year Grant and Gluek Study conducted by Harvard Medical School, the #1 factor in leading a happier, healthier life is quality connection.

In an increasingly disconnected society, R U OK? Day reminds us all to take a moment and connect with those around us. It doesn’t have to be momentous or eventful, but checking in with one another is meaningful. When we ask “R U OK?” or “how is your liyarn?” we are creating a space for new meaning and connection to take shape.

Connecting without judgement or expectation tends to become harder, the closer we are with someone. We’ve all been on the receiving end of well-intended advice from a loved one that ended up casting doubt or self-criticism over us.
