R U OK? Day is coming for 2022!

This year’s R U OK? Day is 8 September 2022.

R U OK? Day reminds us to invest more time connecting with our friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to let them know we’re thinking about them and we’re there to support them.

This year’s theme is “are they really ok?”. Don’t wait until someone’s visibly distressed or in crisis: make a moment meaningful and ask them how they’re really going.

Checking in With Those Around You

Checking in with your friends is a powerful life skill for connecting and building strong relationships.

Check ins can be done in many ways, from a short text to a conversation over dinner. But, you should always be prepared to be vulnerable, confidential and prepared to listen.

It’s best to ask slightly deeper open ended questions like “How is work?”, rather than a yes-no type of question. These open ended questions encourage a deeper response than “I’m fine”.

This is where iyarn can be useful as it creates a 3rd space that you can use to direct the conversation about the results rather than the person feeling, making them feel more in control and able to overcome whatever challenges they may be facing.
