Three Years of ireflect: How YouthCARE is Embedding Wellbeing Support Across Western Australian Schools
In late 2023, YouthCARE and iyarn formalised a partnership to develop ireflect, a YouthCARE branded white label of the iyarn platform. What began as a trial with a small group of schools in Perth has grown into a platform used by YouthCARE staff and chaplains across their network of schools to support student wellbeing. As we enter the third year of this partnership, we wanted to reflect on what has been achieved and where the platform is heading.
How ireflect is being used
Across YouthCARE’s network, key staff and chaplains are using ireflect in their respective schools as a practical tool to support students. Chaplains create tailored check ins for the young people they work with, whether in one on one pastoral care, small group settings, or broader school activities.
The check in takes students less than 30 seconds. The value sits in what happens next. Chaplains can view wellbeing data, identify students who may need additional support, and use results to guide more meaningful conversations. For school leaders, the platform provides a clearer picture of how students are tracking across the areas that matter most.

One school leader shared:
“Since launching, we have been able to give students a way to easily track their wellbeing and mental health. Our students have embraced this resource and can see the value in understanding their own strengths and areas for improvement. We are now beginning to see students empowered to improve their overall health, as well as having important data that shapes how we can best support them.”
Continued investment to meet community needs
Rather than treating ireflect as a static product, both YouthCARE and iyarn have continued to collaborate on improvements that respond directly to what chaplains and schools are asking for.
One example is the development of a QR code sign in system, co-designed with YouthCARE to make it even easier for students to complete check ins. Instead of requiring individual account registration, students simply scan a QR code to begin. This removes a significant barrier to participation, particularly in busy school environments where time and device access can be limited. The feature was shaped by direct input from YouthCARE’s frontline team, reflecting the collaborative nature of the partnership.
Growing reach
Over the past three years, ireflect has expanded from a small pilot into a growing network across Western Australia, including regional and remote school communities that have historically had limited access to digital wellbeing tools. This growth has been driven by YouthCARE’s chaplain led adoption model, with interest growing organically as chaplains share their experiences across schools.
ireflect is ISO 27001 certified, meets WA Department of Education vendor requirements, and all data is hosted on Australian based infrastructure with AES 256 encryption.
What is next
Both organisations remain committed to the partnership and to deepening the impact of ireflect across YouthCARE’s network. The focus continues to be on refining the platform based on what chaplains and schools need, and supporting student wellbeing across Western Australia.
